At River Relics, we store all our metals with silicon packets to resist moisture and tarnish.  If you purchase any of our larger glass pendants, an occasional rubbing of cocoa butter will restore its luster.

River Glass Origins

  1. Several thousand shipwrecks over the years in the St Lawrence, equally so in the Great Lakes. Also, several villages were submerged in the making of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project in 1958 (The Lost Villages)
  2. Historically: For many years, communities bordering Lake Erie and likely Lake Ontario, dumped garbage directly into the lakes. Glass from these sources would eventually break down and become smooth by the action of the water and rocks.
  3. Industrial Discard: Areas with past or present glass manufacturing or industrial activity can be good places to find beach glass. For example, the former General Electric plant in Conneaut, Ohio, is believed to have used discarded glass to combat erosion, leading to finds of cobalt blue and black amethyst glass in the area.
  4. General Litter: Unfortunately, litter that makes its way into the water and gets tumbled by waves and currents can also become river glass.  team consists of experienced and knowledgeable professionals who are passionate about jewelry.
